Hello there! I am Daniel Lorenzo Laguno, a video game developer who recently graduated in UPC’s Design and Development of Video Games Bachelor’s Degree a degree where I mainly programmed in C++ and C# and used engines like Unity and UE4. I am working as a QA Tester in 2K, but I have also worked as a Unity Developer in a team of four people. Currently, I am looking for a full-time job as a Gameplay or AI Programmer!
I am a lover of high fantasy and science fiction stories as well as tabletop games, especially Dungeons & Dragons. Above all of that, though, video games have been my passion since I was very young, and my favourites are the ones from the Bioshock and Dishonored sagas. Nevertheless, I also enjoy going out there to take a couple of beers with my friends once in a while!
During my second year at the degree, made research about the Technical Design Document of a video game. I developed as well a final thesis for my degree, called The Underlying Message where I analyzed in which ways can politics be involved in video games.
Through the different subjects of the degree I have been specializing in user interface and gameplay programming and it is what I enjoy the most when I am working on a game. On the other hand, I have also worked on online programming, the development of our own game engine, and in the fields of game design, level design and quality assurance.
The software I have used the most by far is Visual Studio Community, but I have also worked with Unity and Visual Studio Code. Every single time I work on a project is through a GitHub repository, thus I have experience working with branches and merging them. When I am programming I tend to be very meticulous commenting on everything I am doing and ensuring it will be understandable for whenever I need to come back and reread it. I have mainly programmed with C++ and C# but I have notable notions of Lua and Python as well. As I mention throughout my contributions in the projects of my portfolio, I am also used to working with different APIs and third-party libraries.
Right now I am working as a Functionality QA Tester on 2K. On college, every time we developed a game we had to go over the quality assurance process at some point on each release, testing features and tracking bugs. I got used to tracking every problem I found using GitHub Issues and then go to code to try to fix it. During a year I also took part in Table Flippers, a student initiative where we gathered and playtested different board games that had the intention of being published.
Across the university projects, I have strengthened and improved my teamwork skills, being often someone who took the reigns, cheering up and encouraging the rest of the members and keeping the focus, and I fervently believe I am a great teammate. On the other hand, I have no trouble at all speaking in public or meeting new people. Apart from that, I have been working as a teenager leisure monitor for five years during which I have both been part of teams and led them.
